Recycling and Sustainability
Efforts in Ladera Ranch

As we continue to be stewards of the environment, our Ladera Ranch community is coming together to reduce our community’s footprint and waste. By making small but impactful changes, we can strive for a combined sustainability priority that matters.

Curbside Support
Republic Services provides curbside recycling pick-up, single-stream every other week of mixed paper, plastic, metal, and glass materials. They take the Green Waste diversion program by collecting food scraps and yard trimmings to compost for keeping biodegradables out of landfills.

Community Cleanups
This is a joint effort made by the Beautification Committee towards organizing quarterly neighborhood cleanups of tricky areas like creek beds and parks which normal collection misses. Volunteers of all ages come forward to keep public spaces pristine.

Hazardous Waste Dropoff
The town organizes bi-annual Ecophore activities, which provide an opportunity for residents to take substances such as paint, batteries, oil, and electronics to the towns for safe disposal other than the general weekly trash. Proper disposal keeps soil and water clean.

Plastic Bag Ban Shall Be Respected
With the new county regulations that started at the beginning of 2010, plastic bags usage in retail stores have been brought to a free fall. Apart from bettering the shopping experience, this use of the reusable bags is helpful in reducing the pollution brought about by single-use plastics, which put our waterways in danger.

Recycling Programs in Educational and Workplace Settings
Due to the initiatives of the Sustainability Committee, multi-stream recycling stations have been installed in several public places, and it has also become easier to sort paper, plastic, and aluminum/tin. New signages have also been installed to make sorting even easier and push people into sustainable habits for life.

Electronic Waste and Battery Recycling
Best Buy constantly offers the company a chance to collect electronic waste and promote the proper disposal of those who have outdated electronics. Another service is battery recycling for all types of batteries, including alkaline, lithium, as well as heavier vehicle vehicle batteries so that the precious elements do not go to waste but rather get recycled.

We are optimistic in Ladera Ranch that the level of community for reducing, reusing, and recycling will continue to grow. All together we can add up small sustainable actions to dramatically change the local environment for the better.
